Why Are We Here?

Sometimes I think. When I do, I am usually not near any electronic gadget. Because that’s the only way I can think. So this fine day, I thought. I thought about this human race. The existence of this human race. The motivation to this thought were the news on wars and riots, which are pretty much frequent nowadays. We are in a planet which is basically as unnoticeable in this vast galaxy as Manmohan Singh throughout the Congress reign. Why are we here, exactly?

Gods created us (or maybe we created Gods.. okay sod it, the former suits the application). Gods created this universe, and then he drew 9 certain planets on a chart paper (yes yes, you’re welcome, Pluto), did the Eenie-Meenie Miney Mo, thus selecting this certain planet. He instilled into it some gases, and water, to keep the human beings alive.

It’s tea time. You’re lazy. Then the Bahu of your mom’s favourite daily soap drops a glass of water and all hell breaks lose. Your mom won’t leave the couch now. You gather yourself, get up, make tea, and attack the bed. Meanwhile, the Saas of your mom’s favourite daily soap now gathers the neighbourhood and starts bitching about her Bahu. At this stage your mom is busy cursing her. You ask your younger brother to bring the tea. And then the inevitable happens. He drops the tray, and your hardwork is now a feast for the flies. You feel like killing your brother right now. I’m sure the God is looking down to us and thinking the same. Obviously his words follow some manner, Gods don’t usually spit out abuses.

‘Think I should push the restart button, eh’.

We came to this planet with 2 eyes, 2 legs, 2 hands, one nose, some hair. The point is, we were equal. Then came religion. AND EVERYTHING’S FRIGGIN’ CHANGED SINCE.

I started with ‘Gods created us, Gods created this, Gods created that’. This is what religion has done to us through all these years.

Our group of friends were talking about this concept a few days ago, when one of the friends went a bit too wild. He strongly believed that it were the Gods who are responsible for our existence, our universe, our milky way, and probably Gods themselves too. Any counter question resulted in a straight abuse and broken friendships.

We were born equal. We are always born equal. And then we are put inside boundaries. Religious boundaries. Cultural boundaries. Traditional boundaries. Why? Because no-one gives a damn shit about logic. That’s why.

As I was writing this, I also thought of disabling the comments at one point, as I was in no mood to get bashed by presumptive representatives of God. But I decided against it. Mainly because it was tough finding that option.

But seriously, don’t get me wrong. I don’t hate religion. I hate the hate which people spread on the name of religion. These boundaries have restricted our abilities to comprehend things. And this gradually has led to disastrous consequences, which our present world is facing.

I open the newspapers (alright, I login to twitter) and so unsurprisingly get depressed, everyday. Wars. Riots. Even rapes. Every friggin’ thing has one common connection. Religion.

Life’s too short to keep on ranting, to keep on glorifying your gods. Life’s really too short to keep on proving the superiority of your religion. We’re a small, blue dot surrounded by a million other dots in this great universe, and we aren’t supposed to waste our precious life doing things which will only cause disharmony. Get up, look at the world, look at all the beautiful things this planet possesses. Set your goals, make your life purposeful, do something charitable, appreciate the nature. These are the things which will make your god happy.

You Only Live Once. Spread smiles.
